It may be easier to read the captions on these samples. Note: The tip of the metal edging of the black sabretache was not cropped, it was bent and survived that way.

More details about the Napoleon's Options: Waterloo mini game

Several backers asked for more details about the Napoleon's Options: Waterloo mini game. Below are some PROTOTYPE images of the game map and sample game pieces (1-inch square markers). Playtesting and feedback may change their final look.

Dana designed a series of 4 World War One mini games to help introduce people to the history of WW1. These mini games were intended primarily as solitaire games, but 2-player rules were included. They were simple (but not simplistic) and easy to play, with a minimum amount of rules – often less than two sides of a single sheet of paper.

The Napoleon's Options series was based on these same parameters as the WW1 mini games: short rules for solo & 2-player play, small map, and less than 40 playing pieces. There will also likely be some playing cards added to represent turning points (favorable and unfavorable). The playing pieces include Napoleon's personal intervention (his options), random events (like low ammo), control markers (flag), and Guard units (full- and reduced-strength) shown below under the game map.

The central theme is that Napoleon had direct control of his Guard and deployed it in ways to either:

1) Stabilize a threatened line (counterattack at Eylau 1807 and defend Plancenoit 1815), and/or

2) Withhold it to keep a fresh reserve for the next battle (Borodino 1812); and/or

3) Deploy it immediately (grand battery at Waterloo).

Or any combination of the above – this is where YOU decide in this game.
